Turkey Fryer Safety (Message from State Farm Insurance)
Frying turkeys for the holidays has become exceptionally popular in recent years, and for good reason: Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, deep-fried turkeys make for a simple and delicious meal.
But there are also new dangers when you fry a turkey. Many people report “splatter burns” from getting too close to the vat of boiling oil. In other cases, haphazardly dropping the turkey into the vat can lead to an overflow and a dangerous oil fire.
In this video, firefighters offer a number of safety tips for frying turkeys. For starters, don’t overfill the oil before you begin. And in no case should you fry a turkey indoors or in the garage.
